7 Summer Skin Care Tips

Summer isn’t over.  This means you still need to make sure that you take care of your skin.  Summer heat can be harsh on the skin.  If your skin is oily, you might notice that it becomes even oilier.  If your skin is dry, it can get really patchy in the summer.  You’d despair over breakouts, rashes, roughness, and pimples!  The summer acne just refuses to go away.  Once the temperature changes, you need to change your skin routine.  Too much sun exposure is bad for your skin.  It can cause premature aging.  There are some simple summer skin care tips that can ensure that you have a healthy and glowing skin.

Facial Care

You need to give your face a special skin care during the summer.  You need to keep it hydrated, clean, and free from dirt.  That may be tough.  It’s hard not to get dusty and sweaty during the summer.  So, just make sure to splash with water at least 3-4 times a day.  You don’t need to apply anything else, just clean water, and that will keep the grime and dust off.  Consider using scrub at least twice a week or more depending on your skin type to keep your face clean.

Don’t Forget to Apply Sunscreen

UV rays can be harmful to your skin, but they’re even more harmful during the summer months where exposure to UV rays is relatively high.  Make sure to pack a sunscreen that will give you optimum protection against harmful UV rays.  It should at least be SPF 30. Apply it 20 to 30 minutes before heading out. When you go swimming, you need to re-apply when the sunscreen gets washed out.

People with oily skin need to apply sunscreen too.  Get gel-based sunscreen though. If you have dry skin, you need to use sunscreen moisturizer with matte finish especially if you’d be putting on makeup.

Use the Right Skin Care Products

Get rid of your thick creams or pack them away for the summer.  They’re only good for really dry areas of your skin like your feet.  Your skin needs to breathe during the summer. So, buy lighter lotions and serums. Avoid products that tend to block pores.  Get water-based moisturizers, but if you have oily-skin, gel based moisturizers may be perfect for you.  If your skin is prone to acne, you might fare better with facial sprays.

There are natural ingredients in your kitchen that can help keep your skin healthy during summer.  For instance, you can juice tomatoes and freeze the juice using your ice trays.  Use the frozen juice as scrubs every other day.  Let the juice dry before you wash it off.  Lycopene can do wonders for your skin.

Take a Shower Daily

Good hygiene can help tackle the heat.  Taking frequent showers can help your skin fresh.  If you suffer from body odor, frequent showers will definitely help you keep you fresh and clean.

Stick to Cleaning Basics

There’s an age-old routine for skin care: cleaning, toning and moisturizing.  Make sure to do this during the summer.  Sweating can open up your pores, so they tend to get dirty.  Clean your face and then use a toner after cleaning. This will help close your pores and prevent acne or pimples.  Moisturize after toning.  Stick to the basics to give your skin a fighting chance against the heat.

Protect Your Eyes and Lips

The sun is harsher during summer months. So, make sure to cover your eyes with eyeglass to protect it from the sun rays.  Put on a lip balm to keep your lips from drying out. If too much heat makes your eyes burn, make sure to wash your eyes with cold water.

Drink More Water

Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.  This will help rid the body of toxins.  This will also help improve your skin especially during summer.  By increasing water intake, your skin will look more radiant.  Of course, the effect doesn’t happen overnight.  It may take a couple of weeks or so to see how increased water intake affects your skin.
