Featured Outdoor Blogger of the Month: Esther and Jacob of Local Adventurer

Esther and Jacob run the travel lifestyle blog Local Adventurer. It has become a way for them to explore more places and find adventure in their everyday lives. The blog actually started out as a wedding site where they shared their honeymoon and travel adventures.

Esther was born in Korea and grew up as a pastor’s kid in Midwest since she was 3 years old. Jacob, on the other hand, was born and raised in Atlanta. He used to be a full-time YouTuber but decided to help more with managing the blog. Since then, Local Adventurer has grown to be one of the top 50 travel blogs in the world and has taken them as well as their readers on numerous amazing adventures.

1. How was your blog "Local Adventurer" born and what makes it different from other travel blogs?

Esther started the blog in 2010 as a way for us to document our travels. Over the next couple of years, it grew an organic following and eventually turned into Local Adventurer. We believe that adventure can be found both near and far and hope to inspire others to explore locally. We move to a new city every year and are currently living in Portland, OR.

2. What tips can you give to people who are just starting out on their travel adventures?

Don't let fear hold you back! There have been countless moments where fear has made us hesitate just before taking the plunge in trying a new experience. We haven't loved them all, but have never regretted trying anything at least once.

3. Out of all the travel adventures you've had, which one is the most memorable and why?

Within the states, our most memorable adventure was living in an Airstream for 3 months. We explored a lot of the US and got a chance to see The Wave. It was amazing to experience some of the beautiful corners of our country. Swimming with whale sharks is the most memorable experience overseas. They are such majestic animals and to see them face-to-face in the wild is unforgettable.

4. Can you name 3-5 places that you want to explore so bad but haven't visited yet?

We would love to visit Antarctica, Madagascar, and Australia.

5. If you were not traveling, what would you be doing instead?

If we didn't have our travel blog, Esther would probably have another business she'd be working on (she ran a wedding photography business for 8 years before she started the blog). I would be more of a toss-up. I might still have a regular job, or be doing something in the creative space as well.
