Do you know that there’s actually scientific explanation on why you need to put on an outdoor headwear on certain weather conditions? There is something underneath than just serving as protection from the cold, heat and wind.

When it is hot, sweat cools us off through evaporation. But your head needs covering from the extreme heat that the Sun gives to avoid getting heat stroke. When it is cold, blood vessels constrict so blood is shoved into the body. The body process has some effects to the brain, heart, and other vital organs where they become so warm there’s a decrease in blood flow in hands and feet. The lack of blood flow to the extremities increases the insulation on the skin, layers of fat underneath, and adjoining muscles. Shivering is also present, though uncomfortable, they give off extra heat.

Thing is, the head is more sensitive to temperature. The blood vessels in the head constricts very little when it is cold since the brain needs an uninterrupted supply of blood. There's also a small amount of subcutaneous fat for insulation, so, even if your body is wrapped up but your head is exposed, you will still lose body heat. Also, a cold head stimulates blood vessels to constrict in other parts of your body. The result is making your hands and feet also cold even if you are wearing gloves, thick socks and shoes.

Some men want to act so tough that it doesn’t matter if they are not wearing proper outdoor headwear in harsh climate. They want to show off. But as what was explained earlier, the body has its way of telling you to wear something for your head so the whole system will function properly.

Men’s headwear come in many forms suitable for different weather conditions. Whatever you choose, whether hats or balaclavas, be sure to get the best men’s outdoor headwear you need for your outdoor trip.
